locked multipliers?

on the new board i just got.. an MSI KT6V

it is fine with the multiplier at 10 on my athlon 2600+ it works and the fsb
was at 100

so the clock was 1 ghz, way below spec, so i notched up to 11 on the
multiplier, got 1.8ghz, i knew that wasnt the right multiplier, so i tried
11.5 and its at 1.92ghz now

if the multiplier is locked can a system be underclocked but not
overclocked? so i can have my multiplier below 11.5 but not above it?

Did you happen to know what the all the number on the cpu were?
It sound like you have a unlocked cpu.

I previously had an abit nf7, i tried OC'in that with my AMD2600+ Barton
333FSB it would not work

people here told me that it was because I had a locked multiplier and the
only way that i could OC was to change the FSB from 166 to 200, but i only
have DDR333 memory and was told that i should only attempt to change the CPU
fsb to 200 if i had DDR400

Anyhow

I put in the new MSI board, with the same CPU, the board did not set the FSB
and the mutiplier itself

the FSB was at 100mhz and the multiplier was at 10

so in order to get the full use of my 2600+ i changed the multiplier to 11.5
and the FSB 166

i haven't tried anything anyhigher yet, I was just wondering why the
multiplier was at 10 when i first put the board in, If people say that the
multiplier on my CPU is locked then shouldn't it always remain at 11.5?

or when people say locked do they mean it can go anywhere from 0 - 11.5 but
no higher than 11.5<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

You must have one of the older unlocked CPU's. With Socket A chips
they are either completely locked (i.e. run at default multi only) or
completely unlocked (i.e. you can select any multiplier the
motherboard supports).

A64 chips are different, with A64's you can select lower than default
multipliers, but not higher.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

is it locked or not? - how would i now if my barton 2600+ locked or not (i have it oced at 2.2 ghz by uppin volt to 1.7 and its fsb is at 200mhz) is it lokced or not? and is their wawy of knowing its locked or not without removing heat sink and fan

Amd 64 3400 these locked ? - Multiplier i mean ? Just i read about this 1000mhz !!!! Hypertansport thing and is that related to the FSB, Multiplier ?

Is every barton locked? - I was just curious if every Barton being produced was locked or if it was just the 2500+, I'm pretty sure it was all of them though.

New Duron is locked too - I just picked up a cheapie Duron 1.4 to play with from Newegg for $33, I think. The damn thing is multiplier locked tight. It's a week 48. I'm jacking it up by fsb instead but that's only half the fun :( Dave PS: It's a 1.5 volt chip and it runs..

possibly locked? - My mate has a Athlon 2600+ and a Soltek 75frnl mb. He has the multiplier on default and it displays 2600+ at bios. When we change the multiplier to something other than default the computer will not boot and we have to clear cmos. We tried even a..
