I have an Abit KT7A-RAID ver. 1.1 As I understand it this board will
support an Athlon XP 1900 with the newest bios installed. The board
currently has no CPU and I intend to put the 1900 on it.

This leaves me wondering exactly how I can fire it up and flash the
new bios with the 1900 which it will not support without the new bios.

The only slower processor I have available is an AMD K6-2 450. Will
this old processor work in this board? At least long enough to flash
the bios?

I am wide open to any information, procedures or any other help in
this. Thank you for any help you can give.

What does the mobo manual say ???
TomG has most on his FTP server.

Find a 'buddy' with a mobo using the =same= BIOS chip , ...
=AND= a Bios Saviour(BS) ...
use the DOS flash pgm ... aughta work ...

Fire it up on =his= BS copy, hot_switch to the regular chip(yours),
and proceed with the DOS flash .

Have done similar hot_switch( not hot_swop ) with my KG_& and a BS.

Forget everything you think you know.

You don't have to have a new bios to boot.

You are kidding I hope. That's a socket 7 cpu. The KT7A is a socket A MB.
Just in case, the answer is no, and you don't need to anyway. Your old
bios will run whatever sovket A cpu you put in it.

Have you tried with the 1900+ cpu as motherboard may boot up but at a slower
recognised cpu.
If it does boot at a slower speed then you can flash the bios and run it as
a 1900+.

cheers
