Post subject: memory card format question
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>dcameras (more info?)

I just bought a canon powershot a400, and I thought I would be able to use
my Ascent brand "Compactflash" digital memory card with it, but someone said
there are 2 kinds of memory card, sd and cf (I think, I'm not really sure)
and that type of formatted card won't work in this camera.
Can someone knowledgable help me out with this --- are there 2 kinds of
memory card format? If it's a different format, couldn't I just reformat
it? Will an Ascent 128Mb CompactFlash digital memory card work with a canon
powershot a400?
Any knowledgable input on this matter would be gratefully accepted!

if the card fits in the slot, them use the new camera to format it.

There are several types of memory cards including cf (Compact Flash)
and sd (Secure Digital). For most part only one type will fit any
given camera so if a CF card fits your camera, it is fine. Since you
alreasy know CF card is what your camera uses, CF card should be fine.

Some cameras tended to be picky about the format so make sure you
format a new card *in* your camera and not in any memory card reader.
