i have just got a new 512 memory at pc3200 400mhz and although i can find
out through the computer that it is a 512 module how can you make sure is
pc3200?

Does it have a "-5" on the chips?

In other words, the chips must be qualified for 200MHz DDR, as well
as a quality PCB. You can check the chip spec at the respective
manufacturer's website, datasheets.

Another more simple option is to run it at DDR400 speed, and test for
errors... the rating doesn't necessarily mean it will work in a
particular motherboard, along with any particular combination of
modules at any particular timings... YMMV<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
