This Dell 640M laptop has Vista Home Premium, core duo, 2GB RAM,
Mobil Intel 945GM video chipset (integrated). It's a WXGA+
screen with 1440x900 resolution and just a DB15 video connector
- just fine for my purposes.

I want to buy a larger monitor for the desktop. No games or
movies - just business, but I want it to look good.

19" widescreen is typically 1440x900, so in my ignorance I'd
guess that's a perfect fit with no compromise. However, I would
like to use a 22". Would the image be ok? As good? Much worse?

Advice?

Thanks, gurus!

your laptop, when connected to an external monitor will be able to output
the resolution of that monitor - you dont need to match it to the resolution
of your laptop screen.
chances are, the laptop will be able to run both at once if you wish - and
both at their own resolution.
