Post subject: ms-6178 sdram memory configuration?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard, others (more info?)

Hi. I need 128-256 MB of new memory for my PC, a Fujitsu-Siemens Euroline
with
MS-6178 mainboard , but I don't quite understand the restrictions for memory
configuration in the mainboard manual.

First it says that max memory is 512 MB with 128-bit technology (128 Mbit?),
then it says that the mainboard will take two DIMMS from 8 to 128 MB (that
would be max
256 MB).

Also in the memory addressing table only "DRAM tech. 64M" is mentioned.

How can I be sure to get the correct kind of 128MB/256MB DIMM from the
store?

Thanks for the help.
Johannes

This is information I've seen available at (some) sites that sell memory
---------------------------------------------

"DIMM configuration/org": 8Mx64, 16Mx64, 16Mx72, 32Mx64

(These values seem to correspond to the size of the DIMM module)

"number of chips": 4, 8, 9, 16

"chip org.": 8Mx8, 8Mx16, 16Mx4, 16Mx8, 16Mx16

(Only value here that I can see match with the mainboard manual is 8x8.
(This is for a 128 MB DIMM with 16 chips.)

Excerpts from motherboard manual:

2.3-1 Memory Bank Configuration

- The mainboard supports a maximum memory size of 256MB(64-bit technology)
or 512MB(128-bit technology) for SDRAM:

- It provides two 168-pin unbuffered DIMMs (Double In-Line Memory Module)
sockets.

- It supports 8 MB to 128 Mbytes DIMM memory module.

2.3-3 Memory Population Rules

- The DRAM addressing and the size supported by the mainboard is
shown below:
