Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard (more info?)

I had a PCChips notebook with an Eden motherboard, embedded CPU, and the
thing failed after less than a year's operation. It worked extremely
well, and then began to have "illegal instruction" exceptions towards
the end. Way back when, "illegal instruction" exceptions that weren't
there at the outset were the sign that Cyrix CPU was about to fail, but
it looks as though the latest 700 and 900 mhz VIA embedded CPUs give
that signal also. What a pity. It worked so well otherwise.
