Same ol' KT7A Raid question

This great ol' board, a version 1.0 with the next to last Bios in it (don't
remember which that was, but the final update didn't seem to have anything I
would ever need), started life running a Duron 700, grew to an Athlon 1.2G,
and then graduated to a 1900+ Athlon.

My wife's HP Pavilion seems to have died -- I'm suspecting one of the via
chips on the Mobo -- fans still run, HD is fine, there's enough intelligence
on the board to know that when I press the power switch it should wait 4
seconds or so to power off, so I am guessing that the processor, an Athlon
2600+ that apparently uses a 266 MHz bus (really 133, of course), is OK. I
replaced the pavilion with a new store bought machine, but now I sense
opportunity to make the ol' KT7A Raid a bit bouncier with the 2600+
(Tbred?). It will also a good excuse to take the computer down, take it
apart, and remove all the accumulated dust -- the capacitors don't have any
guck on them, haven't swollen, so I suspect that I have the makings of a
machine that will work.

Am I going to have to cut any bridges, dig into the socket and short any
pins together or tell the bios any lies about the multiplier to choose?
Also, should I expect any noticeable improvement in any performance if
indeed the 2600+ actually somehow gets up to that multiplier of 16 or 8 or
whatever it has to be to get from 133/266 up to 2.13 GHz.

I know this question is asked over and over, and I apologize for asking it
again without doing the heavy research. Thanks for any help anybody can
offer.
