I have used an Avant Stellar for several years now. It has been run through
a Raritan Compuswitch KVM. Now, I long ago gave up programming it for the
standard key swaps (Caps Lock, Control, LAlt) since using the KVM would
cause it to spontaneously reset every so often. Rather, I have simply
changed the keymap in the registry (Windows Server 2003/XP/2000) which works
great.
This morning, I did a KVM switch and the light show (the keyboard status
lights) that indicates a programming reset in progress was more chaotic than
normal, and my keyboard was dead. However, when I unplug and replug the
keyboard into the KVM it still causes the status lights on the keyboard to
flash--so it's not completely hosed.
My first question is, is there any procedure I can try to revive the Avant
Stellar?
After that fiasco, I retrieved an ancient OmniKey Ultra from the deep
recesses of my apartment and have been using it. Unfortunately, it was
programmed for the key swaps which is now messing me up since the swaps are
now in the registry. This keyboard is old--it has the DIP switch under the
OmniKey cover (along with the big orange button).
My second question is, what is the procedure for doing a manual reset on
this keyboard to clear all programming?
Many thanks for any help you can provide.
