Hi just installed above cpu and before i o/c it im a bit worried bout temps.
I'm running 48-50 idle and upto 62c under load. Im going to get some A/s
tomorrow and clean the cpu up a bit and reseat H/s. Im running a volcano 7+
on medium speed (4250 rpm) at the moment and would like some temp
comparisons please as i think this is well high.

Thanks in advance.

Which board? I noticed some people in the user review section at Newegg
(for the IS7) are reporting high temperatures. Someone hinted that the latest
bios may help the problem.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

My 2.8 FSB 800 overclocked to 3.4 Ghz on an ASUS P4P mobo. It's running 27C
at idle and 44C under 100% load. Motherboard temp is about 33 at idle, 37
at load. Zalman 7000 air cooled with 3 Pabst 80mm quiet case fans. The
original poster has exceptionally high temperatures.

That's a little warm, But. From the info I have, you need to hit 65c before
your in yellow zone.
And 75c for red zone. Besides that, the p4 does run hotter then most
cpu's anyway.

I'm running a 3.0 at 3.45 using a Thermaltake SubZero w/ Ar. Sil and
at idle right now it is 23c. After hours of gaming it has yet to go
over 30c. My case (Antec 1080AMG) is at 30c right now (idle) and it
only fluctuates a few degrees either way. I hava all fan slots in the
AMG filled including HD fan.

I realize that a zealous enthusiast could put calibrated probes in different
places and get higher temperatures, but where is the "right" place? I'd
like to think that ASUS has a pretty good idea where to put the sensors to
get what would generally be considered to be standard readings. Three
different pieces of software show the same temperatures on two different
ASUS P4P motherboards, so I'm assuming my calibration is what ASUS intended.

In fact, when providing comparison temperatures for a general forum, isn't
it more realistic and informative to use the probes and temps that come with
the motherboard? It's all relative, and since others will more than likely
be using the same kind of setup, let's compare apples to apples.

Actually it's close to 80°F in some northern parts of Alaska. We're
having very nice weather recently. Wink

How well do those Zalman 7000 coolers do compared to a stock 3.0C's
heatsink? I know they're better than the older 2.4b style heatsinks,
but Intel includes a pretty big one with the newer processors.. is it
still worth swapping out?

this could be ok if at least the MoBo & its Bios would be the same...

have re-applied cpu heatsink with some silicon, temps now are 48-50 idle 55c
under load so I suppose it maybe due to relatively high case temps (35 o/c).
Will be working on getting case temps down later on in the week (think I'll
get rid of the scsi drive as its only 72gb anyway). now that i've got the
cpu temps more stable it's time for the overclocking to begin Smile
Just hope my generic ddr 400 dosent crap out to quickly!

Jason,
My P4 runs just a couple of degrees lower than yours, and like yours, it
doesn't vary much between idle and heavy loads. My idle is about 43c and
load is low-50s. Don't pay much attention to some folks who have cpu temps
lower than their ambient temps. Think about it...Smile. With air cooling, how
can your cpu temp be lower than the case temps? You should be fine but if
you raise the core v. make sure you keep an eye on your temps and try and
make your maximum temp stay under 60c. Wish you luck.....
