hello,

is it really true that my p4dce can not & will never be able to run
2,8 ghz xeons (400 mhz fsb of course)? even with the new 1.3 bios or
any future version it will not run more than 2,4 ghz? why? or is it
just a marketing trick by supermicro to sell these p4dce/6+II boards?
has anyone reliable experiences? did someone already tried to run
faster than 2,4 ghz xeons on a p4dce/6?
thanks

aw

It's not a marketing trick, it's a physical hardware limitation. The
Voltage Regulation Modules on the older boards will only support a
multiplier of up to 2.4 Ghz. You can't go any higher, BIOS or
otherwise.... You can put a 2.8 on the board, and it will run fine, at
2.4 Ghz.

The tech at Supermicro claims that to be true. Has to do with power
consumption. Whether or not it's true in all cases, I can't say. I went
with the 2.4s
