p53g freezes when installing any pci card

Using a p53g motherboard by PC Chips.: I've tried a sound card and a
wireless network adapter pci card and when i get into windows xp sp2
it will freeze w/in a couple minutes, when i disable the device using
safe mode it works fine, but it won't allow me to use it. I've tried
a soundblaster card and a netgear pci wireless network card. I'm
using a geforce pci express x16 and it works fine, won't allow me to
enable anything else. any ideas?

There is one Newegg review entry, where the reviewer claimed to be
using an "Audigy SE". So I guess that means the PCI slots can work.

I tried to look at a picture of the board, but I cannot make out
all the chip numbers. The LAN could be integrated into the VT8237S
Southbridge, and then there'd be a PHY connected via MII. So that
doesn't use PCI. There is an audio chip, but that would be
AC'97 or HDaudio high speed serial. So I don't know of any other PCI
chips on the board, whose operation you could use as proof that the
PCI bus works. On an average desktop motherboard, the PCI bus is
connected to the slot connectors, but also runs to the occasional
peripheral chip, and the source of the bus is on the side of the
Southbridge. But if there are no PCI chips used on a motherboard,
then it is pretty hard to prove the PCI bus works.

You may just have a defective PCI bus, or two defective connectors.
How connectors can be defective, is if the motherboard is washed
in "dirty" wash water. Some of the solder paste formulations now,
are water soluble, so the motherboard is washed after the soldering
phase. Connectors should really be capped (rubber cover), to prevent
debris from entering them. For example, the RJ-45 LAN connector
on my motherboard, didn't work until the connector had been
inserted and removed five times. Then it tested good. So you
could try the same approach with your PCI card.

It that approach doesn't work, then it is RMA time.
