Post subject: password issue
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>networking (more info?)

Hello, we have a peer to peer at work. All of the machines
are XP except one is win2000pro and one is win98. The
win98 machine is not powerful enough to run XP but it does
the job still with win98.
Problem is that our network printer server is the win2000pro
machine. It's set up for "no" password as in "none" as in all users
have access in the system tools securities tab. And this works as
said for the XP machines, but the win98 machine always balks
with the win2000pro and say it must have a password to access
this network node. It (the win98 node) can see all the XP nodes
but not the win2000pro print server.
We've tried giving the win2000pro server a password and then
using the said password on the win98 node to access but it still
gives the same ignorant message which leads me to think the win98
code is giving the message for problems other than just a password
issue. Does anyone have any info that might help us ???

You'll need to add the Win98 user to the W2K machine with the same password
as used on the Win98 box. Then, delete and re-create the printer on the
Win98 box.
