Sorry for the off-topic post.
Hi
I ran a virus detection program on the computer here and it found the
Trojan Bootconf virus. It is a porn dialer. Geez, I am just so happy
that people invent these things (not!). That would explain why
sometimes when I tried to get on the internet, I would get a porn page
instead of my homepage. The detection program placed the virus in
isolation, but when I do a search on it (the program that contains the
virus), I cannot find it? Then how will I delete it?
The computer has currently 30.3GB available out of 33.8GB on the C
drive, and on the D drive it has 1.28GB available out of 3.41GB. I
would assume that would be enough to work with. Mind you, you would
know better than I would. >> Stay informed about: porn dialer! |

I would also check your phone bill. Some of those porn diallers have a habit
of dialling long-distance, premium rate numbers.
I would imaging that your virus scanner has quarantined the infected file,
so it should just be a matter of going to the quarantine part of your virus
scanner and deleting it from there.
It sounds like this might be an easy one to get rid of though. The last one
I removed for someone, I had go get rid of dozens of registry entries as
well.

Hi
The free proggy SpyBot Search and Destroy when updated may be able to clean
the reg if you restore the dialer and scan with Spybot. You can always
remove it again with your AV if SpyBot doesn't find it. Another free proggy
is called SpywareBlaster. It blocks them but doesn't clean. Also, if you
have a dedicated phone line for the internet or don't phone mobile numbers,
see if you can get premium number call barring set up. $1/£1 a minute
running in the background for a few hours as you figure out whats goin
on...... :-O

FYI I installed the latest version of SpywareBlaster a couple days ago I
created a restore point first (as you should) and discovered that, after
install I no longer had buttons on the toolbar of OE. I ran scandisk,
Adaware, Spybot search and destroy and re-started several times. Still no
buttons on the toolbar. I finally uninstalled it and restored my PC to the
previously created point. That fixed it. Shame really, it seemed like it
would be a good proggy.
Could just be a one-off situation though.

Hi ~misfit~
More off topic stuff but have you ever experienced problems with Spybot
while updating it? I've observed that it sometimes hangs when it can' find
its update server. I suppose one gets what one pays for! You wanna buy a
floppy drive? lol

I've never had a problem updating Spybot, it always goes well.

Nah, thanks anyway. <g>
