Hi all,
I have been trying to get use a Nokia data cable to connect a mobie to
my VA-503+.
I have checked I have the correct FIC-type connector on the rise card
and the COM ports are enabled in the BIOS and show up in the "resource
manager" (sorry, cannot remmebr the English!), but nothing!
I've tested the cable, but do not have another device to hand to test
the mobo's COM ports.
Any ideas?
TIA

The com port cables need to be a special kind made for this motherboard.
The pinouts are different on the motherboard than a standard comport,
so standard comport ribbon cables don't work.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: COM ports not working? |

Yep, that's what *I* wrote. I was following the advce from Robert, copied
below...
BTW, I had the wrong type fitted at first and now the "other" type, but
still no joy
I am wondering if there's something in the BIOS set-up I am missing
PnP/non-PnP or something that sops the cable being found?

best test is to attach a serial mouse and startup windows and see if
it works, it should be auto-detected since win95.

Thanks for the tip Kyle.
Tried it (using a PS/2-serial adapter) but still no joy.
Tried another FIC-configured cable as well, and on both ports.
The hardware side seems to be in order (IRQs are default and no
conflicts notified in system resources), what set-up areas should I
research?
TIA
Keith
