Is there a way to find out what size power supply I have WITHOUT opening the
case and looking ? Maybe some kind of freeware program ? It's a pain for
me to tear into my case just to look at a label.

Most PSUs are "exposed" at the case rear ... most with labels.

not that I am aware of because the power supply is not usually putting out
max current on any given rail and if it is, that would not really be
desirable as it would be having the supply operating at rated maximums. the
ratings on any given rail are an indication of how much reserve the supply
has for major power consuming tasks such as demanding video and/or
processing tasks as well as powering numerous devices.

You got your 'start' writing PC_related "Manuals" in the PRC.

Not unless your case has a perspex window or similar method of looking at
the PSU with the side panels in situ.

 > Maybe some kind of freeware program ?

No. It's not like the power supply actually broadcasts its capabilities to
the rest of the system, so there's no way to "read" this information via
software.

 > It's a pain for me to tear into my case just to look at a label.

Well, if you want to know the answer, that's what you're going to have to
do. To make the job more worthwhile, why not take the opportunity to give
your case a good vacuum while you've got the side panel off? Your PC will
like you for it...

Okay Tom... it's up to you.

Post something "tasty" on the forum about you and your legendary prowess
with the missus and we'll endeavor to get things going again... <G>

http://pages.sbcglobal.net/jefn/missus.jpg

Otherwise I'm just gonna keep doing stoopid stuff like posting modded old
KT7 BIOS' and calling myself a clown for doing so (and you're guilty for not
biting that bait!).

And... I should also post (to remain "on-topic") that MY power supply is
nu-que-lur!!! I don't need to worry about no stinkin' voltage rails!
