Can anyone recommend a router?

'Trendnet' makes a nice affordable 4 port router, ASDLor cable.

Linksys and Netgear are very popular. D-Link is popular, but has had
reliability problems.

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 and have been very happy with it. I have also
found Linksys tech support friendly and helpful on the two occasions
I've needed some guidance over the last 2 years.

The BEFSX41 has a much larger memory for logging which is fun and
helpful at times. Also has VPN endpoint capability.

On my cable modem, the BEFSR41 (v3) from Linksys had the occasional
disconnect until it died (had it for almost a year).

I recently got a D-Link DI-604 and haven't had any problems.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I have a Porter Cable, some prefer the Dewalt, but Bosch makes a nice
affordable router.

What kind of internet connection do you have? Do you want the router to
have an ADSL modem in it? What about wireless capabilities (A, B, G, BG,
ABG)? I lurve mah netgear fr114p router.

I have slow dsl (around 175 kpbs). No wireless. The main thing I'm looking
for in a router is the ability to easily do port forwarding, as the one I
have no makes port forwarding almost impossible.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Good for what? I have several routers and select the best one for the
job. For example, a good router for a router table might be too
bulky/heavy for hand-held use. Makita, Porter-Cable, Bosch, and
DeWalt are good brands.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The Linksys 4-Port BEFSR41 is apparently one of the best selling and most
stable non-wireless routers out there. (Linksys is owned by Cisco.)

Personally, I am sold on netgear after my experiences with the fr114p,
and will be using one of their products when I upgrade to wireless.

Hey DaveW

If you have one of those Linky befsr41 routers, you may want to go to
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.dslreports.com" target="_blank">www.dslreports.com</a> and do a quick search on the forums there for that
router. There are some issues with certain firmwares that are being debated
quite a bit. I traded mine off for a befsr81 to get away from it. Stability
and Security seem to be the main topics with that router.
