I have a tyan s2466 dual mp board and have been runnog for about 6 months
with a single processor with no problems. At Xmas I got another 2600MP and
tried to install it. When the second processor is installed it won't even
post. But if I remove the 2nd one, it works fine. I've checked all the
jumpers and they seem to be o.k. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.

Got enough power for both processors ? I had this
problem (also with an S2466) when I upgraded a system from
dual Athlon XP1900+ to dual MP2800+ processors: either
new processor would work fine by itself, but I couldn't
get both to work until I upgraded from a cheap 350 W PSU
to a decent 450 W PSU.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Have you tried just the new processor by itself in the 1st CPU slot? Do
that to make sure it works.

If it does, there is probably a difference in the CPUs that makes them
not run together. Most of the time, dual CPUs need to be exactly the
same to work right. They have probably made small changes since you got
your first one, and it might not work together.

The solution to that problem would be to buy 2 new CPUs that are matched
(or 1 that matches your new one), and sell your old one's on ebay or
something.

It may be something else too, that's just my thought.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

In my experience with the 2462, the jumpers in the manual are wrong - theyre
upside down! Facing your mobo, the rightmost cpu jumper, try setting it the
reverse of what the manual says Wink

I had exactly this problem earlier this year (though with 2000MPs).
Check to be sure that both processors are of the same type, ie, both are
Athlon, T-bred, or Barton based chips. In my case, the first 2000MP was
an Athlon, while the second was a T-bred and they wouldn't work together
at all (same symptoms yours are showing).

The quality of the power supply may have a lot to do with it. I have a
S2466-4M with dual MP2800+ processors, 1 73GB SCSI and 2 120GB IDE drives
that has been running 24x7, loaded (average CPU utilization 85%), for
about a year with no hiccups, all on a single 300W supply.

Note that now there are now two types of 2600MP cpu's. There is the
original that ran at 2133MHz and had a 256k L2 cache. Now there is also a
Barton 2600MP also that runs at 2000MHz with a 512K L2 cache. See AMD
datasheet 26426 rev C and 25722 rev E.

check your part numbers on the cpu's themselves:
Barton 2600 (2000mhz 1.60V 512K): AMSN2600DUT4C
Palimino 2600 (2133mhz 1.65V 256K): AMSN2600DKT3C

The original S2466N (not 4M) does not officially support the barton
variants. I believe that the S2466N-4M does however.
