Asus has decided (figure this one out) that serial ports are important
enough to continue having them on [some of] their motherboards, but not
important enough to have the connector on the back I/O shield AND ...
[figure out this logic] not important enough to actually give you the
connector from the header socket on the motherboard to an actual DB-9
serial port connector.
[Duh .... what are they thinking? Must be a blond female product
manager. ASUS: The connector belongs on the rear I/O shield, but if
you are not going to put it there, then give us the cable & bracket.]
They do sell the connector separately at their online parts store.
If you have a bunch of old DB-9 to 10-pin header sockets available, you
MAY have the right one. There are two standards for how this cable is
wired. If you go back to about August or September of 2006, you will
find a group of posts from me on this board discussing this exact issue
[in the context of the P5B motherboard], and identifying the right vs.
wrong wiring of the connector.
