I'm thinking that I will upgrade to a quad core system some time later
this year. (see my other message about this). But I'm aware that it's
early in the market for quad-core, and I'll admit that I haven't been
following the developments in detail.
If you have, or are planning to get quad-core in 2008, what is your
strategy? Why?
I've been a loyal and very happy ASUS customer since the P55 TP 4 (or
something like that.) Considering the way that ASUS has been
supporting quad-core, what current ASUS board would you get today?
Again, considering how well (or not well) ASUS supports AMD, etc.,
would you wait for an AMD-based board, or an Intel-based board but a
non-Intel chipset.
I'm not a gamer, but I'm getting very seriously into Photoshop with
very large image files. Say 14 MB for a Nikon RAW file from a D3, and
sometimes 120 MB files from a Nikon film scanner.
thanks. I know I can count on the guys in this group. That's why I'm
asking the questions here and not in some of the "crazies" groups on
the net.

I recently built a new system with a quad core processor and put it in an
Asus Extreme Stricker motherboard, it works great with a PNY 8800GT video
card.
I purchased the quad because of performance versus price. When I looked at
the bench marks of the extreme processors that cost around $1,000 and saw
that the quad processor's performance was right behind them I couldn't
resist the $279 price tag. It runs so flawlessly that I'm about to buy a
second PNY 8800GT video card and take advantage of the SLI technology. >> Stay informed about: what is your strategy for quad-core? |

Forget the Quad core. Instead think smaller, as in core size and go for one
of the 45nm procs. I'm currently using an E6600 conroe but am anxiously
waiting for the Wolfdale to come into my fav online supplier. It will spank
the pants off current Q4s in that it is EXTREMELY over-clockable and runs at
ridicuously low temps. Does a 6MB L2 cache sound good to you? Does a 35W
power req sound good to you? Does a price tag under $250 USD sound good to
you? .... thought so. : )
