Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

I ordered up the parts to build up the new system.

Giga-Byte GA-7NNXP
AMD XP 3200+
CPU Cooler - ?
Corsair DDR PC3200 RAM 512 MB (2 x 256)
Antec P-160 Case w/ 2 - 120mm case fans
Antec True 430 Power Supply. Will control case fans.

I'll be stripping the rest of parts from my current box.

BFG Asylum FX 5600 Video Card. (to be upgraded later)
Asus 52x CD-ROM
HP 9100 CD-RW
2 WD 30GB Harddrives
Sony FDD

What CPU cooler would work best for this combo? I'm not looking to
overclock much, so I'm looking toward a quieter unit. I have a Cooler Master
HHC-001 with an 80mm fan that I may try first. Just lapped and polished the
bottom today.

Also, how is the sound on this board? I'm just using a two speaker and sub
set-up, Altec Lansing, no surround.

Thanks for any info.

Wayne

The HHC-001 is going to work (unless you live somewhere real hot), but there
are better.
Regards the sound issue the only better sound solution available IMHO are
the Creative Labs Audigy cards. The sound on the GA-7NNXP is excelent
quality and has low CPU utilisation, unless you allready had an Audigy card
hanging around I'd stick with the onboard sound!

I'm using the HHC-001 because it' just been sitting here. The onboard audio
thing has been a problem on my current board (Asus A7V-133).

Ah yes but your onboard Audio isnt based on the Nvidia chipset but a combo
VIA & Realtek solution. Frankly my personal oppinion of the audio qualities
of the A7V-133 are not printable, you should go buy another sound card - any
sound card!
