I went to Abit's download section on their web site and got their uGuru
utility. After installing it, I noticed that some of its features really
don't work. When right-clicking on its tray icon, and selecting Abit EQ,
the CPU slams to 100% usage for about 3 minutes, nothing shows up on the
screen, and then the ABITEQ.exe process unloads. Great, it consumed lots of
CPU and did nothing. The FanEQ selection pops up a dialog saying that it is
checking fan speeds, CPU bangs up to 100% usage, the window goes away, and I
get nothing to adjust or reported. The window just went away. The first
time I tried to select OC Guru, a small popup window appeared saying that it
wasn't supported on this hardware. The next time it was ran, CPU usage
slammed up to 100% and eventually came down after the ocguru.exe process
unloaded.

I can't tell for sure if Abit's uGuru utility is something that I can use
for their NF7-S motherboard. It's not like they organize their downloads
according to product and model. Some of the download descriptions will
mention for which models they are usable, but the uGuru download description
says nothing. I had previously seen links to a description of uGuru when
reviewing their various motherboards. A search on "uGuru" turned up nothing
so I figured to find a mobo description that mentioned uGuru and click on
the link to see its description. After viewing a couple dozen motherboards,
I couldn't find one that listed uGuru anymore. Is uGuru a defunct program?
If not, how do I tell if it is usable with their NF7-S mobo?

I was primarily interested in uGuru to provide me with ease in overclocking.
If uGuru is a defunct or discontinued utility, or if it really isn't meant
to be used with the NF7-S motherboard, is there another freebie and handy
utility for ease in overclocking this mobo? It has the Athlon XP 2500+
Barton running at 166MHz and I figured to try upping it to a 3200+ at
200MHz, especially since both have the same CPU multiplier of 11. It has
Geil DDR400 (200MHz) memory sticks (2 of them so the dual-bus memory feature
gets used) so those are rated even without overclocking to handle 200MHz. I
suppose I could manually alter the BIOS settings to do the overclocking but
I thought the uGuru utility would make it easier. Maybe not. I also have
nVidia's System Utility which apparently has a simple slider for changing
the bus clock but I figured uGuru might have more features or even something
to automagically reset the system if I went too far.

The uGuru utility is for the AN7 MB. It works with the uGuru chip on
that MB.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

that and other boards with uGuru chips on them.

Ah, I knew I saw it mentioned when I was reviewing which mobo to get from
Abit. Too bad they don't bother to mention for which models this software
is to be used in their downloads page. Their uGuru chip sounds like MSI's
CoreCell chip. Don't remember why I chose the NF7-S over than their AN7.
That chip on the NF7-S would've been great. I probably picked the NF7-S for
RAID support and better audio outputs.

You'd think Abit would've had the uGuru install check that their uGuru chip
existed; without the chip, the uGuru install should abort. Okay, I've
uninstalled it. Darn. Was hoping to use its OC Guru for ease in
overclocking. Guess not. I've got nVidia's System Utility but its
overclock functions are minimal (just the FSB adjust). Other than making
the changes in the BIOS, know of any utility out there that would make
overclocking easy?

The current (working) BIOS, version 20, has full support for the nVidia
System Utility, which makes overclocking just as easy as if the MB had
the uGuru chip.
