I'm currently running a A7N8X Deluxe board with a 2600 Processor (512 DDR
400 RAM)
I'm thinking about getting a A8V Deluxe with a Winchester 3000 processor.
Will I see much difference with this upgrade?
I'm not a big gammer, therefore, I can't justify the A8N-SLI.

Thanks

You should see around a 25% or so speed improvement depending on
what you use it for. The Athlon 64 3200+ isn't much more $$$ than the
3000+ so you may want to consider it. We are a dealer and those
are what a lot of our customers are buying. I also use one in my
personal system after recently upgrading from an Athlon 1900+.

Thanks for the replies. Would the A8N-SLI be a good choice for a non gamer
or a waste of $. I realize I would get PCI-E, but is this a big advantage?Is
the NVidia chipset superior to the VIA?

I've just done more or less that, and frankly there's not much
difference. I'd have to qualify:
1. Not a new install - just plugged the old HD in and away (so drivers
may not be optimal);
2. Video processing seems quicker;
3. Go for a Winchester processor - lot cooler/lower power consumption;
4. Using 32 bit Windows;
5. The wifi thing is pretty nifty Smile

It depends what you mean by “waste of $”. I just got an A8N-SLI
Deluxe-based system thinking that it would be upgradeable in the future (the
Athlon64x2 procs are compatible with it), saving me the time, trouble, and
cost of a major upgrade for a while. How good a decision mine was will
depend on what future hardware and software require, and whether my system
will support them. Also, reviews I’ve read tend to favor the A8N-SLI Deluxe
over competing boards.

The only persistent problem I’m aware of with the board is that the chipset
fan seems to fail more frequently than expected, in one case 90 days after
the board was installed. I don’t know how common a problem it is or how
long the fan usually lasts before it fails, but I’ve seen it mentioned often
enough to be concerned. (The consensus of those who’ve experienced chipset
fan failure is that the suggested replacement is the "SwiftTech MCX159". If
it doesn’t void your warranty, it might be worthwhile to swap out the
chipset fans earlier rather than later, or at least buy a replacement and
have it handy.)
