Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware (more info?)

I recently replaced my old Dell 40 GB hard drive with a new 120 GB
Seagate (Ultra ATA/100, 7200 RPM). 2 problems:

1) It now takes longer than usual to boot up the machine (a little more
than a minute's wait)

2) My system does not recognize my DVD drive (G drive). In addition to
the main C drive, I have 2 CD-ROM drives, plus a zip and floppy disk
drives, all of which work fine.

Right now, my system runs with a 1.4 GHz Intel Pentium IV. Will
upgrading the CPU help solve the first problem?

How do get my system to recognize the G drive?
Appreciate any help at all. Thanks, and regards,
Will

PS - I also upgraded from Windows ME to XP (HE).

Run msconfig and see if there is anything there you don't want started with
system boot

Double check all your power cable connections. It may be that a power
supply upgrade is needed
