My usb device locks up my pc.

How come every time i try to use my usb v1 device in my new 865PE Neo-LS
motherboard bios v1.9 it locks up my whole pc instantly? the device is a
barcode scanner by metrologic model: ms9540 POS. the physically same scanner
works fine on another machine that runs the same operating system, windows
xp.

Just aguess, but could the device be drawing to much current on that port. A
USB port can only supply 500ma to all the devicea attached unless you have a
powered or active usb hub. Is anything else pluged in with it?
