I have a Logitech optical wheel USB mouse.

What it does every once in a while is stick in one place for a second or
two, and then the pointer will move again. If not, clicking it a couple of
times frees it up. If not, unplugging it from the USB port, and then
plugging it back in fixes it. XP tells me I have the most recent driver
installed.

Can anybody give me some ideas on what to do next? I'm stuck at the driver
level.

Thanks,

Avery

Did you try loading the Logitech driver? They usually ship one with
the mouse, if not you can get one at the Logitech web site. The mouse
will work with Microsoft drivers, but mine runs mo' better with its
own drivers.

What other USB devices are you using? Is there a pattern between when they
are active and when your mouse is acting up? -Dave<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I also have the same problem on my laptop (don't if the OP is using a laptop or a desktop). Should try installing the Logitech driver I guess.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

thanks for the replys! But guess what?
I was fooling with it this morning and discovered the wire was causing it.
Pushing and pulling on the wire, where it enters the mouse, made XP make
that USB sound when it plugs in or is unplugged. I took it apart, and there
is a short in the wire where it makes a sharp bend (90 degrees) at the point
at which the wire enters the mouse.

thanks again
