I know what cpu and mainboard temps are in AIDA32 but what the heck is
Aux. temp? I'm asking again 'cause no one really had a good answer
for what it was before and also, my machine is starting to do weird
shit like shut down on its own. It only does it during Combat Flight
Sim and during heavy play. I've been checking the temps and normally
my cpu runs around 100-110F but it's been shooting up to as high as
166F briefly before coming down to 120-130F. Auxillary temps are
always in the 160-170F (I know, holy shit but I don't know what's
causing it,... it's never been any kind of a problem though) and
mainboard stays around the same or anywhere around 99-115F. I just
opened my machine and blasted it with those compressed air cans (sheez
they aint nothing compared to my compressor,... live in an apartment
now and compressor is at a friends for the time being). There was a
little build up around the bottom of the sink and managed to blow as
much of that out as possible. Another question, should the sink be
removed and regooped on a regular basis? Mines been clamped down
since about the same time last year. I hope these little shutdown
problems are not reminiscent of things to come, I don't have ANY money
for new parts. The wifes machine pretty much took care of that. My
machine:

The case has 6 fans (5 X 80mm, 1 X 60mm). The 4 in front draw off the
supply directly while a side and rear fan draw off the mainboard. The
sink and cooler is a Zalman CNPS5700D-Cu which has been working pretty
good atleast up until now. Also, checked all the caps on the board
when I did the blow out and all look good with no obvious signs of
wanting to burst. I just recently reinstalled the CFS game after a C
drive cleaning and reinstall of Windows 2000.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Sorry, Lou--I'm clueless wrt the 'auxiliary' sensor. You might email
the Aida folks.

AFAIK, the answer to this varies. If you used AS3, then the answer is
no. If you used one of the standard white thermal pastes, then I'd
clean (and polish if need be) the base of the HS, clean the contact
surface of the CPU, and apply AS3 per the instructions on the site.

Yeah, I can't figure this one out either. Unless it is an errant
reading. My wifes machine gives a normal reading of around 88F for
this but then her system is a lighter weight with only 1 extra fan
besides sink and ps. Maybe those 2 that I have connected to the
mainboard are causing this. I'll have to check that out. As far as
the thermal paste, I used some stuff in a can from my old job that we
used for mating power transistors to the sink side of a chassis. It
looks and feels of the same consistency as that stuff in a tube that
comes with most sinks. I'm gonna try out that AS3 stuff and see how
it goes. Thanks

One of the things the AS3 folks say is that AS3 gets more effective
over the first 100-200 hours or so. I've seen the truth of it. My
Athlon XP1800+ runs about 2 degrees C lower now than it did when first
I applied the AS3. This with similar ambient temps.

The same can be said of Arctic Silver Ceramique. Temps drop a degree or two
over time and equal to or better than AS3. Also zero risk of shorting out
CPU, although I never had any problems in that regard when I was using AS3.
