What is the best video card for gamers at this point? Is it "Radeon 9800 XT"
with 256MB or "GeForce FX 5900" with 256MB?

If ATI is better in performance than NVIDIA or "vice versa", when system
stability is also as important as performance, which one is more stable with
less or almost no operating system crash?

Thanks in advance...

Right now I'd choose ATI...

NVidia was king with their 4200, but flopped afterwards.

Either get a 5900FX + CoD bundle for $190 on the lowend, or a 9800pro (or
AIW) on the highend, and overclock the hell out of them.

The GeForce FX 5950 with 256MB is the fastest card available that is STABLE.
The 9800XT is faster and has a slightly better image, but the drivers are
going thru rapid revisions because they are so unstable with so many games.

I would say the 9800 XT 256 megs, work great with the latest drivers 3.10 so
far, I play morrowind, call of duty, dungeon siege, medal of honor, old
baldur gates 2, need for speed underground, Halo, homeworld 2, neverwinter
nights gold, no problemo

my 2 cents

That's the kind of feedback that I've had about 9800 PRO or 9800 XT. Those ATI
cards are faster and better in performance, but they are not as stable as the
NVIDIA cards.

ATI was never able to provide a stable driver for their video cards. What good
is it to have the fastest video card if it is not even as stable as
satisfactory? Even though I am dying to get every best component in my new
computer that I will be building, unfortunately, I have to forget about ATI
cards. Even though ATI is working on a new driver for 9800 XT, I am not
confident enough to trust them that they can manage to provide stability even
with their new design of driver for 9800 XT.

ATI operates differently than most other outfits in that they job the
drivers out.

I've had experience with ATI since the Mach 32 days and their drivers have
always been mediocre as far as stability is concerned. I try to avoid them
for that reason.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

That is not true. ATI's drivers are worked on in-house and have drastically
improved over the past year (ever since the launch of the 9700). I'm using
the Cat 3.10 with the following games installed: Age of Wonders: Shadow
Magic, KotOR, Mafia, NWN and its 2 expansion packs, Gothic 2, NFS:
Underground, Temple of Elemental Evil, Max Payne 2, UT2003, Dark Ages of
Camelot and its expansions, Medieval: Total War, Call of Duty, and Prince of
Persia: Sands of Time and none of these games give me any visual errors and
stability is excellent.

If only u know what u talking about , revision reason is to make it
compatable and reliable because just about every second week some sort of a
game hits the market,ATI does not release drivers so u idiots can generate
mobile numbers like u do with nVidia shit...Just wait till REAL GAMES come
out only then will see which is which or what....

Avoid all u can.....But at the end thats where u'll end up.Because when all
the so called super games come out u will find out from the hardest possible
way that the piece of shit u;ve got in ur box is not suffiec. to play anyone
of them at top level..I know ; truth hurts. So be it.......

The best video card for gamers is the one you can afford. I got a FX 5200
that I paid $100 for and I won't spend another dime on graphics. It's a
waste of money.
