just finished building my pc.

mb: MSI K8N Neo Platinum
CPU: AMD 64 3500+
memory: Crucial Ballistix, 2 X 512MB, CAS 2
hd: Maxtor Maxline III, 300GB
video: eVGA 6600GT, 128MB, pci-e

Everything works great except for streaming video. I'm connected to
the net via cable. Not sure what the problem is and the logs come up
empty. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

TIA.

Streaming video is highly dependent on bandwidth both from your ISP and
the server at the other end.

I don't suppose you feel like telling us exactly what's
wrong with streaming video?

Not to be rude, but if you don't explain EXACTLY what the
problem is, all details, what do we have to go on?

Depends on what's wrong.
You might try different videos from servers known to have
plenty of unused bandwidth, or that use a different codec,
or even upload a video you have stored locally, to a server
somewhere, and see if it then works ok.

Is this a wifi connection? Most wifi isn't fast enough for
seamless HQ video playback.

Does the stream drip onto the floor or what?

Good point. It's just choppy at certain points. I'm playing the Dora
video from www.nickjr.com for my daughter and it keeps pausing. What's
a good site to test streaming video with? That'll help me isolate the
problem to either me or them.

tia!

The pauses last for a couple of secs or so. Time is consistent but at
different points in the video which leads me to believe it's a network
problem of some kind. Good news is I went to Yahoo Music and tested
some videos thinking that if Yahoo doesn't have it right then it must
be me. Video played with no problem so I'm pretty sure it's the
nickjr.com site. I'm going to test the cnn site and the cable speed at
the speakeasy.net site just to make sure it's not the network
connection.

Hoping that the problem is solved at this point. When you say "poor
codec is installed." how would I check that out? Sorry for the newbie
questions...

Typically a video editor or various tools would tell you
what codec is used to encode any given video. In some cases
there are alternate codecs (than what encodeded it) that
might be able to decode but might not be as efficient or
more likely, have bugs. I think we can ignore this possibly
since it seems the pauses are from interruption in the
download rate.
