It's been my experience that buying something that
has been designed for a particular purpose, while
providing some assurance that it well work; costs
much more than what can be kluged togather. On
an indiv. part basis that is, of course a total project
cost [tools, materials, energy, time, ect...] often
exceeds what someone else is mass producing.
( Allthough I personally value the kluging process)
If you have any access to a thrift shop or flea
market or electronic surplus store you should be able
to find a quiet motor that could drive a $6 hand drill
attachment pump.
"Old Things" that you and or your spouse tried and
no longer use, or that have been replaced by newer
things - can often provide parts for projects.
When things break it is often only a single part that
has failed, a discarded item often contains many fully
useable parts. (motors, switches, valuves, solenoids)
Things designed for commercial, military, and or
industral use are often of much sturdier than that
made for "home use". They often are avail as
surplus at low cost for quality parts. You can
sometimes create projects that result in a sys
that is much better than any that you can just
buy.
Luck;
