I enjoy playing platform and action games along with sports too on the pc
and want to know whether I should go for a Nvidia GEforce or a Radeon

YES, you should go for a Nvidia GEforce or a Radeon
graphics card , also a reasonable priced one.

If you want to know WHICH card, figure out a budget, visit
your favorite web vendor to get some pricing information
then head over to one of the myriad websites with gaming
benchmarks to see what's best in your price range.
