Post subject: When working on mobo, plugged in or out?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard (more info?)

Some say that it is better to leave the motherboard connected to the
power supply, as a anti-static precaution. Although others say this is
to be avoided at all costs. What's the truth?

With an AT PS/MB, it ok as long as power is off. With ATX, this isn't the
case. You need to unplug either the power cord to the PS, or all
connections from PS to the MB first, as it provides power to the MB even
when the system is "off".
