So what is the deal with the 8pin and th 4pin +12V connectors
"required" for the x5da8 motherboard? What power supplies are
compatible other than the supermicro's. I want to buy a Xaser case,
but they don't have any details on the power supply. The only other
requirment is a Extended-ATX case. Anyone have luck with this MB with
cases other than supermicros?

What you are looking at is a full-blown EPS12V motherboard. The extra
connectors are there to feed the CPU VRDs (for dual P4 Xeons) and the AGP Pro
slot (for *real* AGP Pro cards).

The "gold standard" supply is the Antec 550W EPS12V...

There are a number of these power supplies available. I got one made
by FSP Group, Inc. I chose that one because the parts house that had
it would deliver quickly.

The board works beautifully with that power supply mounted in my old
no-name case. Two watchouts, though: If the on-board SCSI is enabled,
Win98SE (and probably the rest of the DOS based op systems) will not
start. Second, it takes my machine about 45 seconds to start loading
XP after the OS selection screen. I have no idea what it's doing, but
it looks completely hung for 45 seconds, then takes off.
