xIC7-Max3 boot problem

New at this so...

Built a new system with:
Intel P4 3.4GHz, 1 GB ram, 2-SATA WD 74Gb H/D's, CD r/w, DVD r/w, Radeon
9800 xt 256, floppy, Zip 250 (internal).
Currently using only one SATA drive, the other not assigned.

System boot & run fine with just the SATA drive(s), CD & DVD

Want to move 2-ATA Maxtor 160Gb from old system to new. when connected
system verifies the DMI pool data successfully, clears the screen then hangs
just before the windows logo.

System recognizes all the drives
Channel 1 Master Maxtor 6y160p0
Channel 1 Slave Maxtor 6y160p0
Channel 2 Master CD
Channel 2 Slave DVD
Channel 3 Master WDC WD740GD
Channel 4 Master WDC WD740GD

Priority boot set to Drive on Channel 3

Any ideas on a possible solution.

Ultimately I want to move the data to the new drives temporarily then reset
the ATA drives to single partitions and move the data back. Then I want to
set the raid to share data. between the SATA drives. Any ideas if it also
affects the ATA drives.
